Our original plan was to retire early last night. As it turned out, we didn't get into bed before midnight. One of our senior sister missionaries was having some abdominal pain and we took her to the akute kare klinik. They kept her overnight and she is there still so they can do some testing on her. The klinik is an extension of one of the larger hospitals here in Frederiksberg. We are hopeful that they will find the cause and help her to get back on her feet again soon.
We awakened at 3 a.m. to watch the Gilbert Temple Cultural Celebration live from Arizona. It lasted until nearly 5 a.m. It was wonderful to watch, and we really watched....hoping to catch a glimpse of one of our 5 participating grandchildren. Once I thought I saw Brooke, but it was for 1 second before the camera moved on and I couldn't tell for sure.
The message of the celebration told in song, dance and video clips spoke to....heroes, staying true in a wicked world, the area's rich pioneer history and the cultural heritage of many groups of Arizonans. The thousands of kids participating moved on and off the performing area with surprising organization, sometimes running to get to their places. I know they have practiced a lot, but getting that many people to move so quickly in and out (in mud!!!) in any kind of systematic way is truly a feat. It seemed to be raining throughout most of it, but it didn't dampen the spirit and enthusiasm of all who participated.
We loved watching and then crawled back under the warm feather comforters and slept soundly until 7:30, when we got a phone call. By then, it was time to get up anyway. It wasn't difficult because we were looking forward to seeing the general authorities again today who spoke to us twice yesterday. They spoke in Sacrament Meeting and attended our little Sunday School class and then taught us hands on techniques for Family Search.
I have to tell you that I got very excited about what they taught, and wished for all the world that I still had access to files that I have typed of letters etc. and pictures of family. It is now so easy to put them on Family Search and share them with the world, well, at least far-flung family members....and by the way....preserve them forever. I guess that will have to wait another 18 months. This wonderful mission we are serving right now has more than enough to occupy our time.
We visited our friend in the hospital this afternoon. She seemed to be in good spirits. We came home for dinner, spent some time studying and now....dear friends....at not even 9 p.m.....I am off to dreamland!
Good Sabbath Day! Getting to bed early is an extra bonus. Sure hope your Sister Missionary get feeling better. Not a good time/place to mention this - but we had a couple in our ward in Bountiful who served in Denmark. He had a heart attack and passed away immediately. They did fly one of their children over to accompany Betty home. It was a sad funeral because the younger grand children were so sad.
ReplyDeleteBless you in all your efforts. Still praying for Doris - and for all missionaries (those I know - are prayed for by name) - and now I am including the members who are struggling spiritually - and as a result - temporally. Living Gospel principles and keeping covenants always helps to strengthen us. L&P
Thank you so much for your prayers. I am praying for Doris ... I hope she can find real happiness. I feel so sorry for your friends from Bountiful.
ReplyDeleteL&P to you
