SK is still trying to fix the washing machine. He may have done it. I ran several loads that were overdue, and he adjusted things each time. It is nice to have someone who can do things like that. I have a friend whose husband is a rocket scientist....really. He is brilliant but he can't fix a leaking faucet. So they just hire a handyman.
After a very quiet day working silently on preparing lessons, reports, phone calls and the laundry, we took a ride just to see Denmark. We set out at nearly 9 and drove to the island that our church is on. We drove past quiet fields, barns, stables, horses and cows grazing contentedly, beaches with ships on the horizon and rocky shores, the bridge to Sweden (with Sweden beyond), a flock of fluffy sheep thronging a couple who were out walking, and a quaint little village with very old thatched-roof homes.
This little town had a lot of walking streets...where no cars can go. |
If I had gotten a better picture, you would have seen Sweden in the distance. |
Nothing remarkable here except that I wanted you to see the same sliver of a moon that will be shining down on you in a few hours! |
We have a road named after us!!! Madsens Way. |
It was not fully dark even when we pulled back into the apartment parking lot at 10:45.
I have been listening to the most beautiful and almost haunting music for the last hour. It is "To Be American" by the Millenial Choirs led by the Stewart Brothers. They are amazing and doing great things in the field of music. The cd has old patriotic favorites in an entirely different format. They inspire love for the great country we belong to.
On Friday we will arise very early and leave with all of the other Copenhagen senior missionaries to travel over to Jutland and up the coast to Rebild, a city that has a fourth of July celebration in honor of the USA. We will have a senior conference there, spend the night and then do a little sight-seeing before coming home Saturday. It will be great fun. We will take a ferry from our island to Jutland.
It will be nice to commemorate a big USA holiday in a Danish way. I'll keep you posted on the fireworks and other celebrations, as well as the old Danish sites we will see.
Sounds like a great way to celebrate two countries I love.
Your day sounded very relaxing. Stan's? - don't know if fixing washing machines is relaxing to him - but the evening drive was beautiful. I noticed that sliver of a moon last night. It was every bit as beautiful as a full moon.
ReplyDeleteSister Linda Petersen passed away Mon. morning - filled w/cancer #4 - and didn't even know it until a couple of weeks ago. She and her husband had moved to the mid shift on Tues/Wed and were working as baptistery coordinators one of those days.
Have a wonderful 4th as you remember a wonderful country (holy & sacred I believe are the scriptural words that describe it).
So sorry to hear about Sister Petersen. It is a merciful thing that she didn't have to go through a long tough losing battle. L&P
