We are moving right along. I can say very useful things like "Whose pencil is this?" or "Is this your jacket?" What makes it especially interesting is practicing on each other, and a lady from Liberia speaks Danish very differently than a man from Peru. We each put our own little spin on the language, but somehow the teacher seems to know what we are trying to say.
As soon as we got out of Danish class we hurried over to the Center. We had several YSAs come a little early in the day. One of them comes so Stan can help him with his Danish! It's very cute. We had a good turnout this evening for Family Home Evening. For the activity, we played a game that required some dexterity and close attention, neither of which I possess a great deal of. However, I managed to survive the game and then we had refreshments.
Let me just say here, that in preparation for this mission, I purchased an aeblerskiver pan and then proceeded to make aeblerskiver. I thought they were quite good, however none of the family that I served them to were particularly impressed. It takes skill, a good recipe and a pan to make a good aeblerskiver. And I had the pan.
I was somewhat disappointed not to have gotten anywhere with my enterprise. I thought it would be fun to impress the YSAs with my ability to cook Danish desserts!
When it was suggested that we have aebleskiver for refreshments, I jumped at the chance. At the very least, I thought here was my chance to develop this latent skill. I eagerly asked, "Do you have the pans?"...picturing 3 or 4 little pans aebleskivering away at the stove.
The YSA laughed in a very pleasant way, and replied, "No one makes aebleskivers anymore!"'...We buy them frozen and bake them." What a eureka moment.
They were delicious. You serve them on a plate with a mound of powdered sugar and a spoon full of strawberry jam. Ahhhhhh. On a cold night....it doesn't get any better than this.
p.s. I\m sure you realize that these are not what we ate tonight. But the ones we had looked this good! |
My mouth is watering. Do you think they would stay frozen if you mailed some? :)
ReplyDeleteConsidering what it is like in Copenhagen right now, and considering the picture of your back yard buried in snow....YES! But maybe you ought to just come on over and get some.
DeleteOooh! Those do look amazing! I wouldn't have know that the picture wasn't exactly what you made if you hadn't said something.
ReplyDeleteIn the interest of true disclosure...I had to say something. :-)
DeleteYUMMY! Here I thought that those were pictures of the aebleskivers cooking - but knew you would not have taken your pan with you - but thought the kids had brought some. What a shock it was to come to the part where you revealed that they came frozen! Loved it - and LOVE you. Keep up the good work! The Vances' left today.
