Halleleujah!

It is slow and it keeps kicking me off, but the internet is working .... somewhat..... and I now have a connection with the world!  Halleleujah!

During our Danish class today we divided into pairs - as is often the case to practice what we have learned.  I was paired with a woman from Peru, who is here with her Danish boyfriend.  When I first sat down beside her, she asked me what church my name badge said.  I repeated it and added "Mormon."  She smiled and commented that there are a lot of Mormons in Peru and that they are awesome.
Well....that was very nice.  Then she said, "I was baptized a Mormon when I was 8 years old!"  She remembered the little "swimming pool" that she was immersed in.  She added that her father had demanded that the children be raised Catholic, so that was the end of her time in the Mormon church.
She asked me if we are Christian, to which I gave an emphatic yes.  Then she asked me about our special bible, to which I replied that we love and believe in the Bible, but we have The Book of Mormon as well.
At that point, the teacher squelched our discussion, but I hope to have more time with her.
For Family Home Evening tonight at the Center we watched a wonderful little Christmas message from Mormon.org and then had a lively activity.  SK and I almost always participate, but I keep hoping for something more sedate, like Bingo.

Tonight was a variation on musical chairs....well for the last several weeks we have had variations on musical chairs.  Everyone loves it!  Tonight we were each given a number from 1 to 20 and we sat in a circle facing the center.  One person stood in the center blindfolded and called out two numbers.  The people with those numbers had to exchange places without getting caught.  My number was called a few times and wonder of wonders I didn't get caught!  I was most grateful because if I had had to be in the center I would never have caught anyone.

They played CRUD, one of their favorite games here and I have to admit it is a fun game.  I enjoy just watching that one, but SK loves to participate.  He won last week, and  there is no living with him now! Ruthless Awesome!

  1. I love that he won! They will learn quickly what my husband learned the first time playing racquetball with him! Ruthless Awesome! The games sound fun! I used to play a similar game where people would choose flavors or types of things (i.e. chips, candy, candy bars, colors, etc) and then the person in the middle would call out something and anyone who choose that would have to switch places. If the person bopped them with a rolled up newspaper then they were "it." We always had fun with it!

  2. That sounds pretty fun too. It gets quite hilarious and everyone seems to enjoy themselves immensely. Another we played last week was a sign. Everyone had a sign like the V for victory sign made with two fingers. The person who was it went out of the room so that the first person to start was designated. Then the it person came back in and the first person sent out a sign....the person whose sign it was had to repeat their own sign to show they had received it....and then send someone else's sign out. Then THAT person had to receive it and send out another sign. Meantime...the person in the middle had to catch someone in the act. It was harder than it sounds.

  3. Ha! Has he taught the YSAs the term "ruthless awesome?" Because it would be really funny to visit the center in five years and hear the winners of CRUD yell "Ruthless Awesome! Ruthless Awesome!" He could leave a legacy of bad winning. :)

    1. Now THAT would be funny. We laughed out loud at your comment. He has not taught them that term....so far he is feigning humility.
