Down and Out

By bedtime last night, I felt worse.  This cold has invaded my head.  I hate colds.

So I rested all day in hopes that I will be well enough on Thursday to go teach the lesson and be at the center.  I called and cancelled the Danish class that was to be here at our place.  I also told the temple that we would not be there on Friday....not because I am anticipating being ill, but because we have a special evening with the Mission President and his wife ....to thank an amazing man who has served in the mission office for a couple of years.

Brother Andersen is a former stake president and a former policeman.  He knows everyone and he knows so much about Denmark.  He has been invaluable in obtaining apartments for incoming missionaries, furnishing them, and helping to negotiate the mission's way through all things to do with the government or rules or regulations.  I can't imagine the mission carrying on without him, but a couple from here in Copenhagen has been called and I am sure they will do a great job.

I worked on planning the mission zone conference meal on March 18.  We will serve 60 people, and unlike fixing a meal at the center where I am usually in the kitchen alone, there will be 6 women to work with me.  SK walked to a new store (our new Costco Wannabe) to scope out what is available for the meal....specifically tomatillos and cilantro....they have both!!!!

I am hoping to have Cafe Rio salads and then cupcakes for dessert.  I called our mission president's wife this afternoon to get the go ahead on the menu, and she had a couple of questions about it for President Sederholm.  I hope to hear back from her in the next few days so I can begin making assignments and looking for sale prices.  It is going to be a little on the costly side....I figured about $10.00 a person....less if I can find everything on sale.  But consider that here, a Big Mac costs $8.50, and if you get fries and a drink it is closer to $11.

I think most of the young missionaries from Utah (probably 90% of our missionary force), would think of it as a great treat.  The Danes have a few Mexican restaurants, and a Mexican food section in every grocery store, but I haven't, as yet, had anything close to good Mexican food.  And most missionaries are treated to wonderful Danish food when they eat with members, so it would be nice to be able to make that for them.

In the meantime, I am working on the lesson for Thursday and hoping this cold goes away!

  1. You were warned to take care of yourselves - so - get plenty of rest and fluids - and rest- and rest. Those colds really take over when you let yourself get over-worked and run down......That being said - I know how missions are. You might collapse when you get home - - - or maybe not... if your family is around. L&P
