Driving south along the west coast of Sweden was lovely (I actually slept most of the way), and we both marveled at how green the grass is. Here in Denmark, we have noticed all this winter, and all winter last year that the grass (when not covered with snow) is a beautiful shade of deep green. It is the same in Sweden. Someone told us that the grass here is just like that....ever green, and it is truly a soul-satisfying sight.
We started out the day eating breakfast in the hotel. They served a free breakfast, and we loved the selection of breads, yogurts, bacon, sausage, eggs and fruit. Breads and cheeses are a very common sight, and I have come to enjoy them. A platter of each is often served for dessert....not exactly my idea of dessert, but excellent nonetheless.
We stopped short of the bridge to Denmark in a Swedish grocery store....it was huge. At first I thought it was Costco-type place that required a membership. It WAS a Costco type of place. So when you make a purchase, you are saving money.
We didn't buy anything large, but found several smaller items that were fun....Swedish chocolate (yum!) and other good things. It was a nice change of pace to walk through a gigantic place like that again.
Upon arriving home, we had about 45 minutes to get cleaned up and over to the center. People slowly began drifting in, so that by a little after 7 we had nearly 30 people for Family Home Evening. I had thought seriously about staying home and resting, but it seemed like a cruel thing to do to SK, who had done all the driving.
We were both tired and not quite up to par, but as is sometimes the case, several YSAs stayed late....we got home before midnight, but not much. One young man and young woman in particular seemed to enjoy sitting close together and murmuring conversations. We are happy to see people pairing off, and hope this could lead to something wonderful. Unfortunately, any relationship getting off the ground right now is probably not going to advance to engagement and marriage before we leave.
Even so, the coming Spring seems like a marvelous time to year to find a spouse.
A quick call to our daughter in Utah and a hello to Eliza and Rebekah ended our very long day on a delightful note.
Tired just thinking about your long drive - long day - and long night. The green winter grass sounds wonderful though - but it probably would not work here - or in UT. You didn't mention refreshments - but I'm sure that part was taken care of.
ReplyDeleteTake care of yourselves - and get some rest!! L&P
Yes....our YSA co-chairman is getting better about getting that assignment out, and last night a young man brough two large pans of chocolate chip cookie bars that were excellent. I hope you are doing better....and that you are resting! L&P
