A "Must-See-This" Kind of a Day

According to Tessa's GPS system, she and I walked nearly 7 1/2 miles today.....7 1/2 miles!!!!

I am sure that is right.  We had a great day though.  The weather was so beautiful that eventually we took off our scarves and even our coats, and basked in the sunshine like all the Danes were doing.

We began with (where else) the Church of our Lady.  I am going to miss that beautiful church so very much.  I will miss being able to go there any day of the year and sitting down in the cool interior to soak up the sacred atmosphere.  One of the YSAs goes to school nearby, and often goes into the church for 10 minutes at lunchtime just to recharge.

How can spending 10 minutes gazing at the Christus NOT charge you?

Then we strolled around the neighborhood nearby....went into another old church (as in built in the 1500s old) and as luck would have it, happened upon a great bakery.  This IS Denmark after all.  We each got a pastry and munched away as we walked.  Mine was pretty good....Tessa's was pretty good.  I think we will have to take her to at least one or two more bakeries so she gets an idea about why Danish pastry is so delicious.

We walked down Stroget, stopping in at the Christmas shop and other souvenir shops.  We stopped briefly to drool at the cakes in the windows of LaGlace, promising ourselves that we would come back.  We continued on down past the opera house and on to Nyhavn, where we got on board the harbor tour.

It was a great little tour....I have been on at least 4, and believe it or not every one has been a little different, including a different route.  But they have all gone by The Little Mermaid.  Since this is the day to do all things Danish on the typical tourist Danish excursion, we stopped at a hot dog stand to have a Danish hot dog.  Tessa pronounced that it was very good.

We retraced our steps back along Stroget and down past Tivoli and on to a fabric store for Tessa to get something cute from Denmark.  We returned to the apartment...where I took a nap!!!!  (Yes there are a few perks to being 66).

SK, Tessa and I headed over to Tivoli and walked around looking at the flowers, the rides, the peacocks and the menus on the restaurants.  We couldn't find one we liked so we headed back down Stroget to Max....the Swedish answer to McDonalds.  But tonight it was woefully inadequate, even by McDonald's standards.  Why do I never learn this lesson?

They were painfully short of workers and the man at the front kept taking orders until he had about 10 trays on the counter in front of him.  He kept looking at each one and looking at a copy of the order on the tray.  He was hurrying back to fry french fries and do other things.  I admired his ability to keep from having a total nervous breakdown.

We ate our dinner and headed home, where we are now sitting in the peace of the apartment, all pretty tired and ready for sleep.  I will work on the lesson a little while for tomorrow night and be happy to put my weary feet in bed.

With Tessa here to help with the meal, maybe they won't get so much of a workout on our Thursday dinner preparation.

Today with Tessa, was a grand day and tomorrow, though completely different, will be enjoyable too.  We'll do some cookie baking, shopping and then dinner for Institute.  (I wonder if we can fit a trip to a bakery in there somewhere.)
