Do you know what I love about May in Denmark?
Okay.....maybe I ought to say "don't love"....because that would be an extremely short answer (practically nothing). One thing I love about it is that it is so unbelievably pleasant to walk along the streets wearing a lightweight jacket against the cool breeze, with the warmth of the sunlight beaming down. I know it sounds a little zany, but consider the source.
We watched "Ephraim's Rescue" for Family Home Evening. We had one of the lowest Family Home Evening turnouts ever. We had 10 YSAs and 3 missionaries. Several of our young people had gone to Sweden over the weekend for one of the Nordic YSA gatherings. It isn't huge...probably fewer than 200, but it sounded like a great weekend. I think it took several of our regulars away from attending this evening....probably tired from the long drive and partying.
That movie is a well-done movie. It would be difficult to present such a solemn story....full of heart-wrenching moments, but TC Christensen did a nice job. This is at least the third time we have seen it and I enjoyed it even the third time around.
It is always sobering to think of what so many of those early pioneers gave up to gather to the West...and what they endured to get there. Valiant is hardly a strong enough word to use in describing them. I have as yet never had to face such monumental trials as they. I think one of the most difficult challenges of today is simply to endure....like they did....but endure in an entirely different way.
I think of the world our grandchildren are inheriting and I pray that they will be strong. I am not sure that crossing the plains in adverse conditions could possibly be worse than what they face....and will face in the future.
Because of exams etc, and because of the low numbers, we actually were home before 11! We walk past Tivoli, which goes strong right up until midnight. I am glad it is open again. It always looked forlorn in the cold winter months with everything shut down and locked up. Now when we stroll past, there are families coming out laughing, people screaming on the rides high overhead and the sounds of music wafting through the night air. It just seems friendly.
It is also lovely to walk home well before midnight - when they close. It is lovely to BE home well before midnight!!!! I am going to take advantage of it and crawl into bed early.
Whoo Hoo!
Getting to bed early is a good idea. Hope you get a good rest. It all sounds so lovely over there. Enjoy. L&P
