Mary Poppins and New Old Pictures

Saturday dawned gray and dismal, but it was bright and warm inside.  Elder Madsen left for the Center at 8:00 to let two groups of youth and their leaders in from Sweden.  The plan was to let one group stay and relax while the other went to the temple.  We thought he would be home by 10:00 or so.
At about 9, a knock came to the apartment door.  It was Elder Hansen from upstairs.  He and his wife were on their way out of town for a few hours to meet someone he had worked with many years ago.  SK (the heretofore mentioned Elder Madsen) had called him and asked that a message be delivered to me to go into the Center as soon as possible.....so I left the laundry and cleaning etc and hurried to the bus stop - WITH my umbrella!  It is a good thing because it rained for several hours.  I missed the first bus and so walked to the next bus stop and missed it....so walked to the third one.  The rain was very pleasant and my umbrella performed magnificently.  But it is so wide that I had to be careful not to impale anyone as they passed by.  A few times gusts of wind caught me, and I wondered if I would take off like Mary Poppins!

I finally got the next bus and had to change buses midway.  When I got to the Center there was one lone young woman preparing lunch for 40 people.  I was able to help her and when the kids came they had a lovely meal, played pool and pingpong and then cleaned everything up spic and span and left to go back across the bridge to their homes.

SK and I walked home stopping at a mall .. an indoor mall for a couple of items.  The mall was very busy, but as we walked along home, very few businesses were open.  It seems that nearly every small business (not in malls) closes at 3 on Saturday.  Amazing I know.

I am excited to report that I figured out how to get pictures from my phone to my computer!  The phone doesn't work as a phone because T-Mobile never did give us a straight story on how to tap into the system here.  There is no way to contact them from Denmark, except by calling them on our T-Mobile phones which don't work because there is no coverage!  It is not a telephone....but it is still a camera!  So I am including some pictures of some of the stories I have told.

Our burritos at the Danish taco shop run by people from the Middle East....pretty good!

Walking along the street where we live....hey....good title for a song, with a tweak or two.

Sk with his dear old friend from 50 years ago..  Brother Johannessen.

View from the kitchen window at the Center.

    1. I have loved seeing the changing colors here! I think Fall is just about over though.

  2. I especially love the pictures of the building with all the red! Are those flowers or leaves changing color? Have you found any bugs in your apartment? Are they just the typical sorts of bugs or Danish ones?

When you say "youths" do you mean of the young adult variety or the 12-18 kind?

I love that Mary Poppin umbrella!

    1. Those are magnificent red leaves that will be dropping off the vines very soon. The Fall leaves around here are breath taking. But it is almost over and we shall soon be in winter.
Youths....the ones that came to the Center and the temple for baptisms were teens. I will try to refer to our group as YSAs. They are only a few years from the teens, but just like you at that age have already been in many leadership positions.

  3. P.S. We have found one spider since we have been here....he was lurking by the front door and he was good-sized for a spider. Not like a tarantula, more like a wolf spider, but definitely the Danish variety! Other than that, no bugs. Ha!
