Picture Day!!!!

What a fun day we have had today!  We walked over to Nyhavn...an iconic street by a canal.
On the way we went down Stroget, also a famous place in Copenhagen.  It means the walking street. There are no cars there, and shops o'plenty.  They are gearing up for Christmas....and the second installment of "Hunger Games."

You might guess that this is one shop that caught our eyes.  It is a famous cake shop.  We have been told by those who know to go in, sit down and order a piece of cake and hot chocolate.  We didn't do that today because we each gained 5 pounds just looking at the window display.

About one hundred dollars a cake!  Seriously.

A very small portion of the walking street.

You must know that Legos were invented in Denmark!  So here in this little Danish Lego store is a little Danish Toy Soldier made out of Legos...and SK impersonating said soldier (With the Mary Poppins).

Nyhavn (pronouced NewHoun)  Don't you just love these colorful buildings?

The real treat for today was going to the Knudsen's home for dinner with 10 other missionary couples.  I am counting the Temple President and Matron here.  Wow....it was amazing.  Have you ever felt loved for no reason at all?  This wonderful couple serve the young missionaries in the district once a month and the seniors once a month.  We gathered around the table and oohed and aahed every time they put a dish on.  They treated us like royalty.  We filled their beautiful apartment, and the warmth came from the joy of being together and being served a feast by a master chef.

Sister Swena is an angel, but that is actually a Danish  chandelier behind her.

You can't tell from the picture, but this pie was at least 14 inches in diameter, and DEEP.  Apple pie.  Aaaah.  It served all 15 of us and there was a third of a pie left.

I adore all the art in their apartment, but I particularly LOVE this little Nyhavn.  Someday you may see something on the walls of our home in Gilbert...I have the straight story on where to find something like it.

We got home to find a Care Package from dear Mary...Stan's sister.  We laughed right out loud from sheer delight when we opened it.  This is treasure indeed....these are serious peelers, and will make a huge difference in our meal preparations!

  1. I love seeing all the pictures! The Nyvan pictures of the colorful homes reminds me very much of a painting in your Gilbert house! Was it the one that Lia painted from Dad's pictures from his mission?

How wonderful of Mary to send you a care package! The will be a huge help!!

  2. I love those houses too! Awesome! Like I said, my flash card in my camera would be filled with them. I have a request! I would love to have a few items (list) or things that would make your lives a little easier, from the states! You once asked for italian seasoning packets. What else would you LOVE to have but can't get? Christmas is coming, as my mother used to say. (She always wanted us to know that somethings you just have to wait for, but in this case it is giving me an idea as to what you would most want!)

I laughed too when I saw the peelers! :)

    1. I would love to have your most foolproof recipe of bread...rolls ...a recipe that would make maybe 4 dozen and one that I can do by hand. I would love that. I would also love any recipes that you have made that would be a hit with young adults! Have received now three care packages which have been soooo wonderful, I have also noticed how much they cost, and I hesitate to ask for anything! Having said that, if you ever see chicken bullion that doesn't have MSG or anything like it - in it, I would appreciate it more than I can say. I just received some chicken soup base from Melissa (a Penzey's purchase), and that is gold. (I have plans for every drop of it!) I love it, but it is heavy and costs a lot to get here. You are so cute to even think of doing anything like that! Your prayers and encouragement and recipes are all I could ask for. I love and so appreciate you.

  3. I laughed at the peelers too - and wished that there had been a big chopping knife in there. What a beautiful place to walk, take pictures, etc. They are wonderful. And - to top it all off - a luscious dinner with good friends. You are blessed - and all of us are blessed to be able to have you share. THANKS & God Bless!

  4. I love seeing all the pictures. And of COURSE Aunt Mary sent you peelers. I love it!!! If only it wouldn't cost $200 to send a crock pot. :) I would love to see some pictures of the young single adults you are always hanging out with.
