What do you do when you have no hot water? If you live in the States, you go out to the water heater and check buttons and dials, and if necessary, you call someone to come and fix it. I had a cold shower this morning.... for the second time in a couple of weeks.
We weren't sure where the water heater was, so SK went to find the man who takes care of all things related to our apartment building. We don't have an individual water heater for our apartment. The apartment building doesn't have its own water heater.
If I have my information correct, there is a very large water heater somewhere that heats it for the entire city! Does that absolutely boggle your mind? I can't imagine where it is, how large it is, how it gets the hot water to me....and everyone else, or what is happening when there is no hot water!
We have gone months with no problems, so I don't think this is an ongoing difficulty. As SK pointed out, it basically means that we can't "use up" all the hot water. For our apartment, we can run the dishwasher and have a warm shower and run a load of white clothes in hot water. Crazy!
Institute this evening was great. The two Frederiksberg sister missionaries plus a set of young elders came by. They are always so cute, and they always look so clean and neat. Everyone is looking forward to general conference this weekend. Since we are 9 hours ahead of Utah, we will be seeing Saturday's sessions on Sunday, and we will watch the sessions from Sunday on our own during the following week.
The meal went along pretty well. The broccoli salad was a hit...several want the recipe. I waffled between fixing mini-pizzas and chicken noodle casserole. Sale prices at the store are what made the decision for me. We got the chicken at a good price. I am looking forward to doing the mini pizzas which will no doubt be popular.
I have long forgotten the angst of being 19 or 20 or older and wondering what to do with my life. When I have a few minutes to talk to individuals, I hear that in their voices and see it in their eyes. Many are firmly set on a course that will take them where they want to be....while others are agonizing over a major, a college, or a significant other. I wouldn't want to be there again.....uncertainty is difficult for me.
We stayed very late, since a small group organized one last round of CRUD. Guess who played for the first time with the group? Me! I didn't dislocate anything, and I didn't trip and fall and break my neck, and I didn't win. But I had a great time! I sense a new career here.
The Scoreboard...SK is known here as AE. M. (Aeldste Madsen), and I am S.M. You can see that SK won 2 of the 3 rounds with his happy little 2 star smiley face. |
I think that I am going to be just as sad as Dad when you move and the CRUD games will be over!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the broccoli salad was a hit. What's the chicken stuff you're talking about?
Yea! You are finally a CRUD player. How fun. The couple in the picture...are they an item?? I wouldn't want to be back in that stage of planning and preparing my life either - especially in these times. The best is yet to come....! Dinner sounds great as always. It's always good to hear of the goodness, hope and faith of your young people. I sense optimism!
ReplyDeleteAs for the cold shower - I remember the time... - but we could do something about it in a timely manner. The whole town (or even area) on one big water heater boggles the mind. You will have so many experiences to remember! L&P
