In the Still of the Night

It was Andruis' birthday today and to celebrate, he brought in a Latvian cake that was unlike any birthday/wedding cake I have ever seen.  He is working hard these days, and often has to leave early, but today he didn't come to class at all....he just came during the break to bring us cake.  He is a very sweet man.  He turned 37 today.  I hugged him and told him Happy Birthday.

Activity night at the center was a video scavenger hunt.  We saw the teams go out, and we watched the videos when they got back, and they were hilarious.  They each took a list of items or circumstances to film, and they were quite creative, not to mention dramatic.  I truly enjoy being with them.

During the evening we spent well over an hour with a young man who will be leaving for Scotland on his mission in June.  He is such a great guy and we both think he is wonderful.  We will miss him.

He told us how much he loves teaching his little primary class of 8-year olds.  His eyes brightened and he smiled in delight as he talked about them.  I know he will be a great missionary.  His very good friend is waiting for his mission call....due any day.  These young men are the best, and I pray for them.

I would love to tell you more about them, but it is after 3, and I must go to bed.

Good night!

  1. Your "missionary to be" who teaches 8 yr. olds - brought a smile to my face. What good young people we have throughout the church. We also have a lot who have the potential to be "good". They just don't know it yet.
3AM is way early - almost time for me to get up - and past time to get up when I work morning shifts at the temple. Sure hope you don't wear yourself down.
You are doing great things with these young people. Feeding them is one thing - but your talks with them and your love - are the most important. L&P

  2. I don't know that we are doing great things with them....but they are doing great things for us. We think they are absolutely wonderful.
It's funny to think that when I go to bed so very very late, that you are getting up so very very early. Hope you are holding up well, and loving that beautiful temple!
