Just in case you ever wondered (I know it is not the most pressing thing on your mind right now!), the roundtrip walk to our favorite grocery store is a little over a mile, making the pilgrimage to the Church of our Lady will come in at just about 2 miles (round trip) , the stroll halfway down the walking street is 2 1/2 miles, and if you go to the very end of nyhavn it is about 5 miles.
When Melissa came, she delivered to me a Fitbit....a bracelet you wear to tell you how far you have walked, how many stairs you have climbed, etc. Sister Hamblin has been wearing one around and I thought it would be nice to have one myself, because some days it seems like we have walked a long long ways.
The average temperature for a June day is 59, with highs going into the upper 60s.. or like today 73 degrees, which is on the warm side. This is about as hot as it gets, and it is absolutely beautiful. The lake path, almost always heavily traveled with pedestrians and bicyclists has people attired in tank tops and shorts. I was out earlier, and wore a light jacket and was very comfortable.
SK went to the temple to serve today, and Fridays are my day as well, but I am flagging on energy and so didn't go in. He said it wasn't very busy. He took some names our granddaughter Allison has ready and did the work for them. It is wonderful to be able to take family names in....and even more exciting when they are (were) Scandinavian.
I began packing up some things today that will go home to Arizona. I am going to ship a few boxes ahead of when we leave. That will simplify getting the apartment ready to leave. As yet, we don't know if there will be a replacement couple for us, and we don't know if someone will move into our apartment soon after we leave.
There is a lot of inherited stuff here....things that other missionaries didn't want to cart home. A lot of it has been useful to us and will be useful for others. And then there is also the stuff we will bequeath to the next couple who live here....things like wonderful kitchen utensils and small appliances. I hate to leave them, because many were gifts to us, but I can't see paying extra to get my wonderful little red friend (the crock pot) home to Arizona. Besides, it has a Danish plug, so it is more at home here.
And the Bosch! I have loved using it for cinnamon rolls and mixing all kinds of other things with it. Elder Johansen purchased it for his wife while they were serving here, and she happily made cinnamon rolls for him weekly. When they returned to their home in the states, she kindly gifted it to me, knowing that I do a fair amount of cooking for the center. I have loved that Bosch. We purchased a whisk attachment and a blender and have made good use of both. I will hate to leave that, but it will make a great inheritance for the next couple to serve with the YSAs.
I tried on every item of clothing I own....and decided what to abandon, what to pack up to take home, and what to wear for the next 2 1/2 months. That was no small job. Decisions....are killing me!!! I have kind of an emotional attachment to some....
And look at this! I have been putting it off as you can see....but now I can relax on the ironing for
another couple of weeks.
So it has been a quiet day, a good day, a productive day, and a peaceful day. Sometimes, you just need such a day.
AMEN! Your body needs a rest in order for your spirit to function. Lots of shirts there. Reminds me of the "good" old days. You can always get a Bosch when you return home. They are the best for yeast type breads. It probably has a Danish plug as well. Take care of yourself!! L&P
ReplyDeleteYes...it does have a Danish plug....and while I won't have to do so much baking back in Arizona, it would be lovely to have a Bosch! L&P
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a wonderful day! We are planning to bring extra suitcases when we come so that you can send stuff home with us without having to pay the expensive shipping costs!
ReplyDeleteThat is music to my ears, or eyes. At any rate that makes me very happy! I will plan accordingly on what to ship and what to send with you. Love you.
DeleteAnd its very interesting to look at the apartment through the eyes of some new couple coming in! What will they see? What will they use and love? I am sure that with your additions you will have left it better! Are you going to leave a letter with suggestions about cooking, ingredients, stores, etc? Its too bad that you may not get to meet them!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought about it, but that is a wonderful suggestion...I will do it for sure....thank you!
