One Fine Day

Quick....what is the first place one must see in Copenhagen?

You must have gotten it right....The Church of Our Lady.  It is perhaps a fifteen minute walk from our apartment.  The wind was ferocious, but the  temperature was pleasant....high 40's.  The sun was shining and the light was just beautiful.

We walked along the narrow streets glorying in the beauty of this old city.  We tiptoed into the interior of the beautiful old church.....amazed that its history goes back to the 1300's.  We sat quietly and pondered the Christus with His outstretched arms.  Derek and Kate walked around looking quietly at each apostle.

We trooped up the old wooden stairs and looked out over the chapel and then briefly looked around in the gift shop.  We also went down into the cellar of sorts where we saw portions of the old and original churches.

What followed was a trip up the walking street, where Kate saw all kinds of fun things.  Both Kate and Derek seemed to love the sights where ever we were.

By noon, I had to leave to go back to the apartment to prepare the English lesson for tonight's Institute.  I hadn't done much work on it, and so sat down and focused with all my energy on being ready to talk about section 138 of the D&C.  There were all kinds of wonderful points that would provide good topics for class discussions.

Once again, SK and I gathered up all the stuff to take to the center.....maybe that is why I feel like it is such a hassle.  We had all kinds of things that needed to go, including two large key lime pies, the ever popular crock pot with a pork roast in it, lettuce, potatoes, onions, and other food items, and clean towels and dishcloths, among other things.

I was blessed to have both Kate and Helena there to help me.  They both chopped vegetables and peeled and cut potatoes so that we ended up with 2 pans full of funeral potatoes.....which did not get done until a full half hour past our normal serving time.  What on earth would I have done without them?

But it all worked out, and Melissa's key lime pies were delicious.  One YSA asked about them....curious because her wedding is coming up soon and she is having a key-lime cake.  Our class was magnificent tonight, and the meal turned out just fine....so I feel good.

Derek and Kate's first full day in Denmark was a success.  They even had a classic Danish hotdog while they were out and about.  They saw a bird's-eye view of the city from the parliament building, they took the harbor boat tour, and they had a great evening at the center talking to many of the YSAs and getting to know them better.

That sounds like my idea of a truly great day.
