A. Sense of Accomplishment Brings Contentment

I made some real headway this morning!  Oh the joy of organization.

Carolyn brought us some delightful and unexpected items that we can't get here.....what fun that is.  She is quite amazing, and has a heart that responds to quiet promptings.  She brought us some things that will be wonderful for our last weeks in Denmark.

As a result of all she brought, she also has a considerable amount of space in her suitcase, so.......I bubble wrapped the little painting and etchings we purchased from flea markets, and which will take up residence on a wall of our Gilbert home to remind us of these golden days.  I have packed up several things we want to take home, like mission newsletters from 50 years ago when SK served as a young elder here.  They are bound together in a book.  He will want those.  We will want all of the mission newsletters from our mission these past 21 months, as well as our branch newsletters, which came out monthly and are great reminders of the branch.

I packed up a little pitcher and sugar bowl (another find at a flea market....made at a potter's factory in a nearby town.

I know what you're thinking....."...stuff. She'll regret carting home so much stuff," and you may be right.  But it was inexpensive....and free to get home.  How can I not try?  Besides, I am now wanting for all the world to have reminders of this time and place.

I also got some laundry done.  2 loads to be exact.  Our washing machine takes over 3 hours for a load of cottons.  That is reduced somewhat if I wash in cooler water.  The shortest cycle I have used is just slightly less than 2 hours.  It appears this is typical.  I like the washing machines.  Our clothes come out clean.

But the dryer also takes a long time.  It is not vented to the outdoors, and has a little drawer that collects the water from the clothes and must be emptied after each load.  But it works great.  Sometimes I hang the clothes on clothes racks.

While SK, Carolyn and Rori were seeing the beautiful sights of  Amager, I was getting ready to go to the center.  They had Is Mageiret (famous Danish and delicious ice cream), and then went to see the Dom Kirke in Roskilde where monarchs from centuries ago are buried.  It is quite magnificent.

I walked to the center early in the afternoon and did some cleaning there, then baked some cookies, so the place would smell good when everyone came in.  It made me happy to do that.  Don't you love to make food for people you love?

I talked to Emilie for a little while.  She leaves on her mission in 10 days.  She will be wonderful.  Do you know what she is most looking forward to?  Seeing the joy that will come into people's lives when they accept the gospel and get fully engaged in the Church.  That is really true....she is sincere about that because she knows how happy it has made her.

We had 3 people who were at Family Home Evening tonight who are not members.  One of them has been coming for weeks and I think he is a great young man.  Another came at the invitation of the missionaries, and he seems very nice.  I hope he comes back.  The third is a cousin of our beautiful young convert from a few months ago.  She is a super missionary and brings non members regularly.

Something that warmed my heart tonight was that Morten, our fearless YSA leader gave a short thought in FHE, and quoted me!  He pulled the quote off the board that says " gratitude is the key to happiness."  I loved it.

Although our numbers were few, we ended up staying late.....several were playing board games and had a grand time.  I don't mind staying late at all.....I fact I'm thinking there is a possible couple here.

But don't mention it to anyone.....these things develop best if no one seems to notice.

It has been a most productive and good day!

  1. Good work. It is always good to get things done that tend to pile up - especially when you are making another move in a few weeks. So glad that your time at the center was so rewarding - and I hope that young couple materializes into an eternal family. L&P
