While the rest of Copenhagen was sweltering under temperatures which reached 76 degrees, SK and I were cool in the temple. OK, so 76 doesn't sound soooo bad, and it isn't. But the sun was shining and if you stood in the sun for long, or if you were riding a bus, or sitting in a small apartment with no cross-ventilation, you would be tempted to say that it was, indeed - hot.
I am happy to tell you that the temple here is air-conditioned. The apartment is not.
Fortunately for us, the apartment has cross-ventilation, and we make use of it as often as we can. Being on the ground floor, we do not keep them open when we are away, or when we are asleep. This IS Copenhagen after all....and a very safe city....but why tempt any would-be thieves? There is a sidewalk right outside our bedroom window and people can walk by any time of day or night.
The temperature tomorrow is predicted to hit 83.....and as far as I know, it seldom gets too much higher. With the humidity in the air, that is warm. It is warm to be running around in Sunday attire! We see more and more people out in various levels of dress.....from skimpy and short to not so skimpy and not so short. Everyone is positively exulting in the idea that summer has arrived.
We spent the better part of the day and evening at the temple...it was beautiful as always. There were two young men there for the first time....one of them was on the last session. He was there with his parents and I believe four of his father's brothers and maybe a couple of his mother's brothers. One of the brothers is Mette's husband Jesper. So Mette and several aunts were there as well.
I sat in the back of the room and thought it was heartwarming to see all those men and women there simply to support the young man who will soon be leaving on his mission. That young man cannot fail in this life. I am positive of that. He has so many amazing role models in his father's and in his mother's families. They are loving, kind and steadfast. Having seen such dedicated and happy people up close and personal ever since he can remember will surely be an anchor to him.
I also saw one of our very dear young women (and her sister) in a session. Her 54-year old father has just been diagnosed with a brain tumor, and we are awaiting news about what is to be done. He seems young and strong, and we are praying for divine intervention. I know this YSA was there, not only to plead for her father's health and well-being, but to seek for peace as well. I hope she was able to find it.
The temple is so many things to so many people....but I know it can bring peace in troubling times, strength to fulfill our responsibilities, and the comfort of being a part of a family that will continue after this mortal life is over. It has been a sweet experience to be a worker at the Copenhagen Temple.
In July.....it is also cool.
Can't think of a better place to be - and with such wonderful people. Hope your apartment will be cool enough for you to sleep well. L&P
