Faith

Is it possible to get any better than the weather today?  Early in the morning, the temperature was 53, and it climbed to 66 later in the day, with clear bright sunlight and a cool breeze.

We awakened early, so that Carolyn and Rori could get to the airport early enough.  They had to be there at 6:30 a.m., but that hour is a mob scene in the Copenhagen airport.  So SK, with his zeal for punctuality, thought it best to leave around 5:20.  I got up in time to hug them each goodbye.  By the time they left, Carolyn had already been outside taking pictures of the lake, the street on which we live, and the surrounding neighborhood, not to mention pictures of the interior of the apartment.

I need to do the very same thing....the better to remember it all by.

We had such a lovely week with them.  It is an interesting thing here.  As senior missionaries, we can have company.  We don't always have a great deal of time to spend with them, but because of the unique mission we serve with young single adults, it is often the case that we have mornings and early afternoons free.  Our day with the YSAs usually begins around 1 or 2 in the afternoon and frequently goes till after midnight.

So sometimes if we do have time during our days to spend with guests, we are burning the candle at both ends.  But it is such a joy to have time with loved ones here and to share this beautiful beautiful land with them.  And we have time with them that is unlike any other time we have spent together.  It is a beautiful little pocket of sweet time together, usually unhurried and relaxing.  It has been a blessing.

Carolyn brought all kinds of fun stuff from Costco and other places, and like Mary, just seems to have a knack for knowing what is needed.  We will have great fun with the resources she brought.

I have spent most of my day working on things for the center.  There is a great deal to do, and I have a list of things that are most pressing, and am working on them one at a time.  Come August 2, we will be heading out to do apartment inspections again, and that will take up a lot of the days when we are not at the center.  I look forward to it, because I so enjoy the young elders and sisters.

We are very excited this evening as we anticipate a visit from Erin and Ethan with their four children. That excitement is somewhat dimmed by the fact that their flight from Phoenix was delayed 5 hours, and will be landing in Newark with very little time to make the connecting flight.  SAS, the carrier that will fly them to Copenhagen told them this afternoon that if they don't make that flight, they lose the money they have spent, period.  If they miss it, the only way to get here is to buy new tickets and that is out of the question.  So we will be uneasy until we have heard they made it...and it is iffy, but we are praying for divine help to get them here.

I'll let you know tomorrow evening what the outcome is.  In the meantime, I am studying the life of Wilford Woodruff....a remarkable man.  I will teach both Danish and English speaking YSAs tomorrow night about him.  I know we will have two investigators there.  I am enjoying the study immensely. He was a man to emulate in his faith and faithfulness.

When my life is all said and done, I am certain that I would be content if I were known (like he was) for my faithrulness.

  1. You have, indeed, been blessed to be able to have visitors during your mission - and to have the time to show them such amazing sights.
As for Erin -the family may make it - but she is not moving fast these days. I will pray for them. Sure hope they make it. What airline was 5 hrs. late? My niece & 4 children (including an infant and a 1 yr. old & a "downs" child was in the Provo airport on Mon. - with plans to come to Mesa on Allegiant. They kept them there for 7 hours before telling them that the flight would not go out until Tues. They did give them vouchers for hotel rooms - but not food. It was a mess for her - but she got here on Tues. Since Erin's family is changing carriers - things will be tough. I await your comments tomorrow with great anticipation. Enjoy Pres. Woodruff in the meantime. L&P

    1. Erin and Ethan were on Southwest...and connecting to SAS, who seemed to be the ones who didn't care what happened. I have heard some sad stories like your niece's - about Allegiant. They are going to have to do better than that if they want people to fly with them. Thanks for your prayers. That is the only way to explain how they made it. L&P
