We all started out at the temple, where SK worked in the baptistry, and we did work for nearly 30 female ancestors. One of them lived in the 1500s! It was a sweet experience. I love our Copenhagen Temple. It is a serene and lovely place to spend time....full of kind and cheerful individuals. The Spirit there is unlike any other place. We stood in front of the mural in the baptistry for awhile, where we soaked up its import and beauty. I love good art, and those particular murals speak to my heart.
Frilandsmuseet was the next perfect place to visit. It is an open-air museum....a village of very old homes (from all over Denmark) taken apart, shipped to this park, and then painstakingly reassembled. We walked around enjoying the cool temperatures and the warm sun. One thing I love about this place is that as we walk, we see families....a lot of young families with strollers, babies, toddlers and older children strolling in and out of the old buildings. We seldom hear any language other than Danish, which means (to me) that it is a place where local people love to go.
We drove up a main thoroughfare in a nearby city, parked and then walked through the arch into the park. We stepped into another world.....a world of simplicity, quiet and hard work. I would love to be a part of that world for about 3 hours, and then rejoin mine.
I wondered if these geese knew how good they have it here. We watched them parade around the yard together. They did everything in sync....including swimming in the pond. |
All three wanted to get the perfect picture of the geese. |
That is where we got most of our walking in. But not content with the number of steps there, SK, Carolyn and Rori went to Tivoli (with a brief detour down part of stroeget), where they wandered around enjoying the flowers and crowds of people. Unfortunately, the number of people there proved to be a hindrance to going on rides.....the lines were over 2 hours long.
They came home and we all listened to a graveside service for Millie....a sister to SK and Carolyn who passed away last week. It was very short, but Lia was there handing her telephone over to family members so we could say hello. Once again, we feel so very blessed to be able to enjoy the blessing of being able to interact with family members in real time who are so far away.
I am semi-ready for the talk in Danish tomorrow in church. Remind me about this talk, if I ever complain again about having to give a talk in English! What a cakewalk that is compared to this talk in Danish.
That is a LOT of steps for one day!! Wow. And How neat that they have people in the houses!! That must be a summer time thing. I'm excited for the Allens to go to that one. Does Dad have a better attitude about it when there are people inside to break up the monotony of the million houses? Ha! And as for the talk, I guess at least you don't have to talk about cleaning the church building in Danish. :)
ReplyDeleteYes....he has a much better attitude. Every time he goes there, he learns a little bit more, and so by now, he has become the Frilandsmuseet Super Tour Guide......urging us forward to see each house, expounding on what we are looking at and just generally being a fountain of knowledge.
ReplyDeleteTalking about cleaning the church would have been incredibly difficult. :-)
Wonderful - but tiring day. L&P
