Pam will be leaving next week, since she and her husband will be ending their year-long mission at the Copenhagen Temple. Pam and her husband are two of the nicest individuals you will ever meet. It has been an amazing experience to have that weekly lunch and class with Pam, Janet and Mette (and Kayla til she had to quit). During our time serving with the young single adults and the young missionaries (which has been utterly wonderful), I think I have missed being close to other women closer in age to me, with life experiences more similar to where I am at. I couldn't have asked for better women to be around. They are all three incredible, kind, energetic and interesting. I have loved the time spent with them.
We sat at a beautifully set table on Mette's patio at munched on fresh fruit, yogurt, pancakes, fresh Danish bakery rolls and pastry, mild white cheese and a delicious sparkling punch (for want of a better word) which is like Martinelli's Sparkling Apple Cider, only worlds better.
We walked the path to the lake and climbed aboard a small covered boat that makes its way around the lake three times a day. It took nearly 2 hours. It was over 5 miles....I know this because Mette walks around her part of the lake every day!!!!...and the boat went farther into canals and other lakes. The day was warm....not a trace of a cloud in the clear deep blue sky. All along the lake were lovely homes tucked into the lush green foliage.
We returned to Mette's home where we had a little more to drink, and a little more to eat. No really...how can I lose weight like this????? Then home again.
SK and I did some shopping. We also turned in all of our soda pop bottles....what a crazy thing. Each can or bottle has a charge of 15 to 20 cents, which you get back when you turn them in. We have been letting them amass in the closet in a large plastic bag, so in a continuing effort to clear things out of here, we turned them in. We collected about 15 dollars.....it reminds me of being 10 years old, and returning bottles to get a treat at the Spudnut Shop.
We use it for the center....so it is a good cause.
The apartment is still warm from the day's sunny temperatures. We have several windows open, but there hasn't been much of a breeze. I have a portable fan that Lia sent....I am wearing it around my neck! It was perhaps 73 or 74 degrees today....and lovely. But too warm for me. By Saturday and Sunday, it may be 80 degrees, in which case, I will pray for a cooling breeze! July is typically the hottest month, dropping somewhat in August, and then dropping even more as Copenhagen slides into Fall.
I am off to bed....tomorrow, we and about a fourth of the missionary force will meet with the new president. I am looking forward to hearing from him.
What a nice day to share with friends - food- Stan and bottles. L&P
