Sweating the Small Stuff

We are coming down to the wire.  Three days til the Danish test.....it really is not a big deal....it really should NOT be a big deal....but it is a big deal.  If I fail the test, no one will know....except of course....you.  If I fail the test there is no penalty.  If I fail the test they will not kick me out of class.  Why is this a big deal?

I have read 3 simple books and have prepared an oral report on each.  I am prepared to answer questions about the books from the the two teachers who will be the interrogators.  I must talk for one minute about subjects of my choice....and I have chosen my family, and our apartment.  Finally, we will be shown a picture and must ask questions about the picture for a couple of minutes.

So....how difficult does that sound?

Oh well....it will be over by Thursday evening and I can continue my great and wonderful Danish education at home with SK.

This evening was Family Home Evening.  I taught the lesson on temples.  I so enjoyed the comments from the YSAs.  They are wonderful and share personal insights that show a depth of testimony that strengthens all of us who listen.

I gave them each a beautiful little watercolor print of various temples that my friend gave me before we left Arizona.  Any reminder of a temple is a good thing.  The Copenhagen Temple will celebrate its 10-year anniversary this month.  There will be two weeks when we have been invited to attend as much as possible.  I am looking forward to that, especially since it has been closed for 2 weeks.

Before Family Home Evening, we spent well over an hour talking to one of the young men here.  He is in school and has a long haul ahead of him.  He is also in love.  It is so fun to hear him talk about her and about the plans he is making with her.  It is a sweet experience to watch lives unfold and enlarge.

The temple looms large as a worthy goal for everyone, but especially someone in the YSA age range.  It provides a firm base on which to build a future. In a world where relationships are not necessarily long-term and families are sometimes in various states of change, the goal of building a marriage and family that will last into the eternities is quite remarkable.

It is even more remarkable that we have strong and steady young adults who want to make that kind of commitment.

Happy Cinco de Mayo for those of you in Arizona!...or anywhere else it is celebrated.  :-)

  1. You always make it sound like those young people are on a much higher plain than many around here seem to be - but then - I don't spend a lot of time with YSA's.
My hope is that all of the youth can be strong and valiant - as they will certainly need to be as we come closer to the coming of our Savior. We all need to help each other in this great effort. Got my Ensign today and have not been able to put it down.

You will do great on your test Thurs. Go in there with CONFIDENCE! L&P

  2. Thank you for the happy Cinco de Mayo wishes! We celebrated by going to America's Taco Shop. The kids thought it didn't make much sense to go to America's to celebrate Mexico but then I said they could each order Horchata and there were no more protests.

I'm sure you will do better than you're expecting for the test and will feel so much less stressed after Thursday!

    1. How many kids like horchata....much less love it? American's Taco Shop sounds heavenly right now!
I hope you're right. It will be good to have it out of the way.

  3. I am so glad that you don't have the pressure of "If I fail the test there will be a penalty".
I kept remembering that you said you would have to retake it at your cost. I'm glad you can just enjoy it and celebrate your knowledge of the Danish language. I just know that you will pass with flying colors and feel a peace that only the Lord and his sweet spirit can bring. After all you are a missionary...I think that includes the gift of tongues:)
The temple is amazing and beautiful and each week they are figuring more things out so it can work as you so often said.....seamlessly. I haven't had a regular line yet. I probably will in July when the new quarter begins.
During the open house one sweet sister was hit by a car and injured severely. Last week a woman with a metal halo and her friend came to me asked for a tour of the brides room. The spirit definitely directed me to allow her that moment. Her friend shared that she was the sister hit by the car during the open house and this was her first visit to the temple. We all prayed so hard for her not knowing who she was and I was blessed to met this sweet and radiant sister. Just a little temple miracle. Love to you and your mission campion. Janet
