The Sabbath - A Gift From Above

How I love our little branch!  We have a family who have been on Christmas vacation for several weeks now, which means we haven't had Young Men or Young Womens classes, since they almost single-handedly populate those organizations.....well actually THE young man turned 18, so now there is no young mens at all.  The two young women are his sisters, and they two primary-aged sisters.  I believe we had a 4-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl there....so we had 2!  We are looking forward to having them back with us.....Besides the mother is our Relief Society President, so the branch needs her.

Isn't it kind of a tender thing to realize that you can go to Sacrament meeting and with one glance around the chapel know who is missing?  I believe we were missing 10 of our regulars today, and that really puts a dent in our attendance of 40.  Everyone is needed to be in attendance.

We spent the afternoon quietly in study and reading.  We received two new books from our daughters and they are excellent!  One is Jeffery Holland's "To My Friends," and it is nearly as good as listening to him because you can almost hear his voice in what he writes.  The other is "It is better to Look ....Life Experiences Shared From the Pulpit."  Both books are as beautiful as they are inspiring.

We also spent some time finishing the puzzle that the young elders started on New Year's Eve.  One of the young men was so excited to have a puzzle....his family back home always had a big puzzle up on New Year's Eve.  So with the puzzle, several sets of honorary grandparents and two kinds of jello, this guy from Utah must have felt at home!

The girls told us to abandon them or give them away before we come home to Gilbert, but I love books, and I especially love books that someone has given me, so I don't know if I will be able to leave them.  We'll see.  Reality may press in.

We played Nines with the Thornes and Sister Hamblin....I won!  Very unusual.

We spent some lovely time visiting with family in Gilbert....and now it is time to sleep.

I love the Sabbath day.

  1. The Sabbath is indeed - a blessed day! A new 8 yr. old Primary class today. They will turn 9 this year. They were perfect ANGELS! Children are a blessing from God - no matter what shape they are in when they come to us. Friends are a blessing too - you among them. L&P

  2. PS - Everything I ever needed to know about the church, Christ or God - I learned in Primary: I am a child of God, rich blessings are in store -- Keep the commandments. In this there is safety, in this there is peace. --My body is a temple. - I love to see the temple. - Scripture power keeps me safe from sin. - Jesus said, love everyone. Treat them kindly too. - We are as the army of Helaman. - I know my Father lives and loves me too. - I could go on - but you get the point. LOVE Primary! Love the temple calling I have too. Every time I serve - I am involved in a little (and sometimes a big) temple miracle. The Lord takes charge of things in the temple as long as we do the best we can - and even when we don't quite measure up. It is His work! L&P

    1. Hey! You could write a cute little book with pictures of Primary children and title it just what you did. Give each page a picture and a line from a song. It would be a great quiet book for little ones.....or just a book to provoke thought for adults.
I love and appreciate your wisdom. Thanks dear friend! L&P
