You're Never Too Old To Learn....

The last of the Christmas decorations were put away today.  The apartment was cleared out a long time ago, but the center had not been done.  It was relatively simple, but took a couple of hours.  I took decorations down from the ceilings and out of the window sills.-  I organized the boxes of lights, ornaments and papers and threw away a bunch of old worthless stuff.

Several young people came into the center a few hours early and just relaxed until time for Family Home Evening.  Some stop at food places closer to Stroget where they order take out.  They bring it to the center and put it on real plates and sit down and enjoy their meals, visiting with each other or with me.  I'm telling you....eating and cleaning the kitchen.....there is something about doing either of those things that just makes it easier to talk to one another.

We had a terrific message tonight about setting goals, and then played a very funny game....I didn't play because I can't think fast enough!  It involved sending some kind of tapping message around the circle on your neighbor's knee.  People were getting drummed out of the circle pretty fast.

In another game, they tapped on their legs three times and then made the sign of an animal and then quickly made someone else's sign, thereby passing it off.  If they bobbled that, they were out.

I had some great visits tonight.  One young woman who was baptized a couple of months ago was there tonight and it was such a pleasure to hear a little more about her story.  She was visiting here from Greenland and was recovering from a little bit of oral surgery.  She was sitting on a bench here by our lake.  She was praying.

She told me that she was happy, but not whole.....she just felt that something was lacking in her life... she felt a certain emptiness.  She was praying at the moment that the two elders approached her and asked if she would listen to a message.  She has felt an indescribable joy ever since.

A few weeks earlier she had felt a distinct impression that the Lord loves her and He wants her to be happy.  And she felt that something was coming.  She is quite remarkable and full of faith.  She has moved now to Copenhagen where she will attend school and pray to know what direction her life should take.  She misses her little brother and parents, but feels that this is the thing to do right now where she can be close to other members of the Church.

I am learning.....from the examples and the shared testimonies of so many of these young people.  What a blessing!

  1. That sounds like a fun game! My guess is that Dad tried to play and got out pretty fast. He's never been good at fast games. :) What a sweet story about the girl from Greenland! I've heard you talk about her but didn't know the story. That is amazing!! And I'm glad she's back to be close to members. Sure love you!!

    1. Yes....I am so glad she is back too. It will be good for everyone.
Dad didn't even try it....we both know our limitations. But he did pull out the "Set" cards and introduced the game to four of the young people. After the first minute, he announced, "I will deal since you really can't play and deal at the same time!" Genius! I didn't have an excuse, so I just lost as gracefully as I could. Love you too!

    2. Genius! It's funny how some people just don't get that game. Derek has still never gotten a set during a game. :)

  2. Such great experiences you have at the center - in addition to your work. The sister from Greenland will be strengthened by your group and other strong members. A good thing that she is back. She may be the start of gospel growth in her family and in Greenland. Hope so. L&P
