We first went to Holbaek, a beautiful and clean little city sitting close to the water in a very large fjord. In fact, the water dominates the landscape. This was our third time in one of the most distant missionary apartments on Sjaelland. It took us a little under an hour to get there. It is a perfect amount of time.....it is long enough to get comfortable and enjoy the scenery, but not short enough to justifya nap!
This was everyone's P-day, yet at 8 a.m., we found our two elders clean-shaven, wearing white shirts and ties and ready to show us around their tidy and clean apartment. They have both been here under a year, but each is doing great with the language. They had charts and maps on the wall, and their study areas were neatly organized. The kitchen was sparkling clean....countertops, sink, table.
You would have loved seeing them in that lovely city, in that clean little apartment, with scrubbed faces, neat hair and white teeth. They are handsome young men....but you'll have to take my word for it. I forgot to take their picture!
If you were their mother, you would be very proud.
We traveled another hour to get to a different little city....also beautiful. What is it that tugs at my heart? The full green-leaved trees? The flowers everywhere? The shrubs, the climbing vines and the dense green hedges. Or is it the homes....every one different....every one sitting amidst the profusion of green.
We went first to the apartment of the sisters. They recently moved from a very quaint and very old apartment in the old-town section of the city. It was a sweet old building but they were constantly battling black mold, and finally the mission found them a different apartment.
They are cute! The stars in the background are cut out from magazines and put up with a kind of silly putty |
They have only been in it a week. There were lovely large open rooms, with a constant light source from windows facing nearly every direction. It has recently been remodeled and feels new.. I loved the things they put on the walls, such as inspiring sayings,
We then visited the two elders from the same city. They were cute.....and had just been grocery shopping. I enjoy listening to them talk about their missions, their families back home, and the gospel. Today's experiences did not disappoint.
We were home in time for a little lunch and then we headed to the center for Family Home Evening. Several came early so we had a good time visiting. Isak taught a superb lesson, and then everyone walked over to the park for games and refreshments. They all left for their homes from the park.
And that was a good thing tonight.....it means we can go to bed now....I'm falling asleep here again at the computer!!!!
What good training for these "kids". When they get their own places - I hope they will keep them clean and orderly as well. I always like to do a temple comparison - although when you have a family - nothing will be that pristine. What a great day - though I know sleep calls before the day has ended for you. Even during the winter months - you made all the towns sound so beautiful. Take care of yourselves!! L&P
ReplyDeleteI think a mission for young people is so helpful in so many ways....and when I see them taking good care of their living spaces, I think they are learning great things! All the towns really are lovely. L&P
